New immigration law won't hurt economy, Arizona governor says

Arizona Gonvernor signed into law a piece of legislation that will require immigrants to carry their alien registration cards at all times. This will hopefully reduce the amount of illegal aliens who have entered the country and are working. Previously the law only allowed officers to chech someone's immigration status if that person was suspected of another crime. But now this law, which will go into effect ninety days after the close of the state's legislative session, permits officers to check the registration of any people who give reason to suspect they're not. Critics say that this law will enforce and support racial profiling.

While I agree that something must be done about the illegal immigration problem, I don't think this is the best way. Yes, it will work to some extent. But it could promote racial profiling, just as critics say.
